Durham, in the North of England, is a city packed full of culture. It is rich in history, with Roman heritage and medieval castles. The city is dominated by Durham Cathedral, which together with Durham Castle is a World Heritage site. The city is full of vibrant shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as museums and galleries. Durham is also home to Durham University, England’s third oldest university.

Beamish Museum is an open-air museum located at Beamish, near the town of Stanley, in Country Durham, England. The museum’s guiding principle is to preserve an example of everyday life in urban and rural North East England at the climax of industrialisation in the early 20th century.

La actual catedral se inició en 1093, sustituyendo a la «Iglesia Blanca» sajona, y se considera como uno de los mejores ejemplos de la arquitectura normanda en Europa. En 1986 la catedral y el castillo de Durham fueron declarados Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.
Commonly known as Durham Cathedral, the present cathedral was begun in 1093, replacing the Saxon ‘White Church’, and is regarded as one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in Europe. In 1986 the cathedral and Durham Castle were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
El castillo de Durham es un castillo normando que ha sido ocupado desde 1837 por el University College Durham después de su papel anterior como la residencia de los obispos de Durham. Durham Castle is a Norman castle which has been occupied since 1837 by University College Durham after its previous role as the residence of the Bishops of Durham. The castle stands on top of a hill above the River Wear on Durham’s peninsula, opposite Durham Cathedral.
